Sea waters are known to have most of the secrets and mysteries that are yet to be discovered. These sea waters are well known to reveal useful information that is required in identifying the unidentified species.

To help the people to know about the actual underwater life, most of the countries around the world have built many underwater tunnels that are coated with the 6.5cm acrylic for the safety of the visitors. These tunnels are built in order to entertain the visitors along with providing knowledge about the underwater life.

These tunnels that are built under the sea waters, are the main attractions near the sea & you can enjoy your visit along with the beautiful and the closer view of the under water life. Here the visitors can see those creatures which they have never thought that would exist.

The planktons or simply the underwater growing plants are found in different sizes and structures in the sea waters. These planktons vary with the normal plants growing on the land. Their structure and the photosynthesis parts also vary when compared to normal plants.

The differences in the regular plants and the underwater planktons can be distinguished easily from a common man also. The visible planktons inside the tunnels allow the visitors to have a view of the marine life and its beauty.

These tunnels have helped the zoologists and the plant biologists in understanding the life which exists inside the sea waters. Here they can carry out their experiments and studies easily and also not bothering the visitors.

The children along with their families visit these places to enjoy the beauty of the sea along with the knowledge about the sea waters. These sea waters will take you to another world where you would love the scenario surrounding you.

Mysteries Of The Sea World

The sea world refers to that part of the sea where the marine life exists and survives. This depth will be like around 1800 meters from the top of the level. These altitude inside the sea is completely dark and no sunlight can penetrate into the sea at this altitude.

It is geographically proved that the 71%of the earth surface is covered with the water bodies and these water bodies are utilized in various ways such as transportation, exploring, fishing and many more.  The water bodies have also become part of many lives.

The deepest sea is still not discovered and the scientists thought that there would not be many species that could survive at the deepest part of the ocean without sunlight and oxygen. But this was proved false because most of the sea life is explored under this altitude and many more species in the sea world are yet to be discovered.

The bluest layer of the sea bed refers to the deepest part of the oceans. These parts are the unthinkable and undiscoverable parts. These parts are said to contain many mysteries in it that is yet to be revealed from the under waters.

The sea has more than lakhs of species that are yet to be identified and named. The zoologists have put in dilemma in recognizing most of the species which are bought in for the identification.

Sea is the calm and the beautiful place and parts of the earth that are found embedded more into human life. The sea has become the only means of earning for the living for most of the people and the best example are the fishermen and the explorers who spend their life only in the sea. There are many mysteries that are yet to be researched and reached by the researchers.

Salmon Farming: Misunderstanding the Fundamental Rules of Ecology

These days there are a number of people are looking out for the well-being of the earth. The reality is that the earth may not be sustainable forever if humans continue to mistreat its resources, and once it is unlivable, there is no do over. So, when there are practices that are hurting the delicate balance of the eco-system, as well as the food chain, there are those that are willing to speak out against it.

One of the things that the world is speaking out against is salmon farming in front of natural river outlets. When salmon is farmed this way, it harms waterways by increasing the amount of parasites in it, which in turn kills salmon as they try to enter the ocean from the rivers where they were born.

Essentially, the food used to feed the farmed salmon leaves less natural water for the wild salmon stock, creating an unbalanced ecology. This kills off the wild salmon Also, many of the farmed salmon are given antibiotics and pesticides to control diseases. These antibiotics are not often digested by the salmon and are released into the eco-system, which hurts small organisms.

These problems are not left unnoticed. Many property managers, such as Portland Property Management, are speaking out against the harmful nature of salmon farming and are encouraging the city to vote on an act that will ban the practice of salmon farming outside rivers. These eco-friendly professionals are aware that if this continues to go on there will be no natural salmon left and that having an eco-system near a river outlet that is off kilter can create a potential aquatic crisis.

As education continues to grow about the dangers of salmon farming there is hope that there will be a safe solution. However, in the meantime, you can join the fight and stop this destructive method of farming by becoming involved with a group that supports the initiative to ban salmon farming.

Sea world consists of many species that thrill us. This world includes many of the organisms from unicellular to the multi cellular forms and also included with the gigantic forms. The species that we come across in a sea are fishes, snakes, animals and every others.

The different species of aquatics such as the marine mammals, captive orca, sea lions, sea horses, sharks, whales and other kinds of species are found in the sea world. The sea world is also associated with the inbuilt aquariums in some areas where the visitors from all over the world can have a clear and the near look of the sea water species inside the seas.

Now-a-days the sea aquariums are built inside sea waters in order to help the visitors experience the species from close distance and to enjoy the beauty of the under sea with closer view. Here the visitors can have a clear look of the sea creatures.

The sea also plays as a home to many historical losses. Many of them are found underneath the sea occurred due to drowning of ships etc. It is said that many of the historical monuments has been secured from the sea beds that any human being had ever dreamt of.
The sea beds have the diatomaceous earth. This refers to the accumulation of the dead bodies of the diatoms which gets accumulated so much that the collections exceeds to many kilometers together. The diatomaceous earth has become so much abundant because of its use of this earth as the decoration materials.

The diatomaceous earth will be accumulated so thickly that many visitors pay to witness it. All these factors make the sea world really special and exciting. Many visitors throng the sea to experience the species that live in it.

The Fish Conundrum: Apartment Aquariums

You may have lived in a spacious home at one point in your life. Now, however, your life is shaped to the dimensions of an apartment, with walls that come together too quickly. You have no inches or space to spare. All areas have been claimed instead by the essential furnishings.

And your beloved aquarium is forced to endure a lack of light while it’s tucked into the dark recesses of a den. Houston apartments may offer views, but only the extra special ones provide fish-friendly spaces. So, you’re unsure how you can accommodate your beloved fish in your apartment.

You have to do something, and an outdoor aquarium seems to be the best alternative.

As their name implies, outdoor aquariums are enclosures that are placed outside on patios, balconies, yards, decks or other areas. They allow individuals to display their fish without sacrificing inches indoors; and this is vital for those living in apartments.

There are several advantages to choosing outdoor aquariums:

  • Size. Outdoor items can be as large as you choose, because you’re no longer forced to the confines of a room. They can house more species.
  • Natural Cleaning. The saturation of light and oxygen helps to regulate aquariums. Natural processes ensure that the glass remains less affected by grime and build-up.
  • Longevity. Breeds that are exposed to open air, rather than being stifled in dull rooms, can see their lives expanded by up to 40 percent.

Be aware, however, that outdoor aquariums demand different standards for maintenance. They should be equipped with heaters to ensure their temperature remains constant; all plants must be chosen with care to keep unfamiliar spores from entering the air (consider local varieties only); and they must be protected from any complications, such as weather and predators. Be certain to keep your fish from harm.

An outdoor aquarium is a viable option and an easy choice. It simply works.

Living With Fish in Denver Apartments

Living in Denver apartments with a pet is great if you’re home every day. When you travel or have a job that requires a flexible work schedule, pets may not be a possibility. An aquarium of fish is a great solution with all of the equipment available on the market today. With a fish feeder and a filter pump, the aquarium will stay clean and the fish will be well fed. So go ahead and place a large tank on that unused wall in the living room. Getting a roomy cabinet to hold all the aquarium supplies will really help keep the fish tank compartmentalized.

If you don’t have a lot of room, go vertical instead of horizontal. A tank that sits four feet high on a tall cabinet will be the center attraction. Keep the tank away from direct sunlight to avoid algae and follow some easy tips to always have a clean aquarium. Clean the tank every month by removing 25% of the water and replacing it with clean cool water, not warm. Cool water is easier to make warm, but it is difficult to cool down an overly hot tank. Maintain and clean the tubing and filter, and add chemicals until the tank is in balance.

Choose fish that get along well together. Ask a professional about the kinds of fish that will work well in your tank. Keep an eye on the temperature of the water to make sure the fish are comfortable. Don’t be surprised when you begin to name your fish or discover they all have personalities. Some will be shy and some will come right up to the glass and welcome you home. Beautiful and calming to watch, fish can be a wonderful addition to Denver apartments.

Ballast Water and Invaders

Image via Wikipedia

The invasion of new aquatic life is something that a lot of people are concerned about. Most of the new sea life that has been introduced to our waters has been transported there by boat. Now, the people on the boat may be completely unaware of exactly what is going on, but their boats are the new transit system for our underwater friends. The ballast in the boat serves as an on-board aquarium for these creatures. Ballast is the water and rocks that a ship takes on in order to balance; it is released once the boat is in dock.

On a daily basis, more than three thousand different aquatic species can be found in the ballast water. The problem has become a major issue near the Great Lakes, and has caused billions of dollars of damage. The new species often become dominant on the local food chain, feeding on the local sea life and eliminating them. This takes quite a toll on the local food chain, by either eliminating food sources completely, or making it more difficult to find the fish because they are forced to feed elsewhere.

These invasions will likely continue for many years. Many of the regulations on ballast water are voluntary. Boats that were being built in 1995, which have a life expectancy of more than 25 years, were built with zero regard to the management of ballast water. In the United States, however, ballast management is now federal law near the Great Lakes and Hudson River. Even in the early 1990s, there were massive damages caused by ballast water. Cholera was transported around the world via ballast water by oysters and fish discovered in Alabama. A third of the boats from South America had been contaminated, making the argument for regulation of ballast water what should be a major concern.

Impact of the Zebra Mussel

People who live on the coast are often familiar with the problems of invading water species: different creatures from around the world being transported right into our beaches by boats and other things. One of these invaders is the Zebra Mussel. It is a small freshwater mussel that is similar to a clam. This creature comes from southeast Russia, but is now making its home in many of the lake water regions.

What makes the zebra mussel such a problem is where they choose to take home. They like to attach themselves to solid surfaces. Often they will take home on the bottom of a boat, or in the propeller. This can essentially cause the boat to break down. The propeller can not move and is rendered useless. If they take home in the engine, a sailor could be out of a boat. They have been known to attach themselves to navigation buoys and sinking them, which can result in people getting lost or brushing up against shallow water.

Zebra mussels have infested the bottom of boats, ramps, and other things since the late 1990s. Because they infest so closely together, they can cause blockages in pipelines and end up restricting the amount of water taken in by companies who depend on it and who supply water to the local communities. Because they have such a sharp shell, they are hard to remove and can cut fairly deeply.

The only upside to these tiny invasive creatures is they have a knack for cleaning. They clean the water of pollution and chemicals, making it easier for sensitive fish to survive. This also allows for sunlight to reach the deeper areas and the growth of algae and other underwater plants to increase. A little bit of good out of a lot of trouble makes this mussel something to be aware of.

Horses of the Sea

Seahorses: the cute little creatures that many places have adopted as company symbols, and people for what symbolic nature they have. These creatures live in the shallow water of tropic island areas. The like warm waters and live near coral reefs or other ares that can offer protection, making it easy to spot them for scuba divers who are enjoying a nice Hawaiian vacation.

Seahorses live in specific areas, similar to how humans live in their homes. The male seahorse will stay within about eleven square feet of where they have set camp. However, the female will venture out nearly a hundred square feet. They swim in and out of their habitats and camouflage themselves to match their surroundings to protect them from predators. The only time these unusual creatures have color is during social situations like mating where they will turn different colors.

During mating, seahorses court each other by moving together in patterned behavior. This is to allow the two seahorses to be closely in sync with each other so that when the female deposits the eggs the male will be safely ready for them. During the courtship they change colors and dance with each other for several days. Eventually they take part of what is called a “true courtship dance,”which is when the mating occurs. The mating lasts for nearly eight hours where the male will show the female his empty pouch and the female will give him the eggs to care for.

During mating these creatures are one of the few who switch roles. The male seahorse will carry the eggs to full maturity, essentially becoming the pregnant seahorse. The female will give the male up to fifteen hundred eggs, which will remain in the male for 9 to 45 days until the eggs have grown to completely developed seahorses. Once the babies are born, they require no more care from either of the parents.

Concern About the Sea Lamprey

Basic external anatomy of the lamprey
Image via Wikipedia

A growing concern for the United States is the invasion of new sea life. Among the new creatures to take over the waters is the sea lamprey. This is a jaw-less fish that feeds on blood and fluids from other fish by tearing away the skin when it attaches to them. Once the lamprey is done feeding, it moves on to new hosts, leaving an open wound that can attract other predators and infection.

This tiny invader, unlike most of the invasive species, came through migration from Canada and eventually landed in the Great Lakes. By the 1950s, the lamprey took over the Great Lakes and had dramatically impacted the trout and whitefish population. This caused a lot of problems for the fishing industry at the time.

The only real solution to gaining control over the Great Lakes and getting rid of the lamprey was to poison the lamprey with a poison that kills the larvae but does not hurt the other fish or animals that live in the same water. This solution is effective, and has been used since the 1950s; however, it is a very costly treatment. With the control of these fish, however, has brought back an increasing recovery of imported fish.

The lamprey is born from eggs as larvae. They are blind, have no teeth, and can live for 7 years this way. They are buried in the dirt near the bottom of the water to protect them from other predators. After they grow large enough, they become predators and launch themselves into the sea. Once they have grown to sexual maturity after several years of feeding, they stop feeding and return to fresh water streams to spawn and die. While attacks on humans have been rare, these creatures are still a nuisance to the local fish and people.
